If you are thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1

Windows XP support has ended (click for more info from Microsoft) and Windows 7 is no longer offered by Microsoft, however you can still special order systems with windows 7 from Dell and other manufacturers, or purchase it from a 3rd party reseller.

Windows 8/8.1 information from the Microsoft web site
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq

To upgrade your current computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 or 8 or 10 you will first want to check if the new Windows will run on your current hardware. Many people have had to replace printers and other hardware due to the additional hardware requirements needed by Windows 7 and 8 and 10. You will also have to backup all files and find your program CD's because Windows 7, 8 and 10 will require you to do a clean install that will remove all files on your old computer.
To upgrade from Windows Vista you do not have to do a clean install. Windows 7 or 8 will upgrade Windows Vista systems, but it is often better to do a clean install to avoid unforeseen problems left over from Vista.

Download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check your system
Click below to download it directly from the Microsoft web site

Windows 10 is the current Microsoft operating system. You can get a free copy from Microsoft if you are already running windows 7 or 8. Before loading a new operating system be sure you have a complete backup of all your important files. Many upgrades will format your hard disk and all current data on the drive will be lost. Do your research before you attempt to upgrade your OS!

If you would like to run the Windows 8/8.1 upgrade advisor click this link to the Microsoft web page and look for the link to download the advisor.

Windows 10

If you are thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 be sure to check with your computer manufacturer before starting the upgrade!

The get the Windows 10 app will show as a icon in your system tray if you are running Windows 7 or 8. It is the tool that will allow you to check for compatibility issues with your PC before you upgrade to Windows 10. It will let you know if your connected devices and installed programs will continue to work. This app can help you determine if you can upgrade to Windows 10. It is higly advised you run this app before you upgrade. Even if the app finds no problems, be sure to backup your data and check with the manufacturer of your computer. Many Sony, HP, Dell and other brands will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10 due to different hardware or lack of drivers. Check for your model on the website to see if it has been tested with Windows 10. Many people have had to go back to the old OS after failed Windows 10 upgrades or other issues after upgrading to Windows 10. Microsoft gives you 30 days to go back to your old OS, but many people have reported problems and had to reinstall the old OS from scratch.

If you do not see the icon be sure your system has all current Microsoft updates installed.

There is no need to rush and install windows 10. You have until July of 2016 to get your free upgrade.

Some people may find they should not upgrade. Many Sony Vaio system should not be upgraded to Windows 10. Check the Sony web site to see if your model can be upgraded.

NSPC offers several networking solutions.

Wireless:
Wireless networks have become very popular in the last several years due to major advances in wireless technology. Many manufacturers offer high speed networking equipment that is both affordable and secure. The home user, as well as small business users can share a high speed internet connection or share files with each of the computers on the network, all without the expense and damage associated with running wires. The equipment needed varies with the individual network and type of internet connection, but the basic building blocks of any wireless network are the modem, wireless router, and  wireless network interface cards (nic) for each computer on the wireless network. Many new laptop computers have these built in.

Wired:
Wired networks are the traditional way to interconnect computers. They offer an affordable, secure method to connect as many computers as you like. Wired networks consist of a of a router or hub, network interface card for each computer, and the cable to connect them. Wired networking is still the choice for networks where security is an issue or where all the computers are either in the same room or are close to each other.  We will be happy to assist you in your purchase, installation, or any other aspect of your hardware/software needs.

Hybrid:
Most existing networks can incorporate wireless technology without completely rebuilding the network. As new computers are added no new wiring is needed, and because they are wireless they can be moved at will. This is the perfect solution for people who are adding a laptop and would like the added versatility of a wireless network without disturbing the existing infrastructure.

Protection

Hard disk data backup is a must for all computer owners. Statistics show that most hard disks represent an average of 3,000 hours of work. A "crash" can be caused by software failure, mechanical failure, an electrical spike or brownout, fire, water, coffee, or even dust and smoke particles. Partial hard disk failure is also common. Sectors of a disk can lose magnetic retentiveness, resulting in loss of data or corrupt files. The data, and your investment of both time and effort, should be protected from loss. NSPC recommends all systems, including those used for games be backed up. NSPC will be happy to install an easy to use automated backup system.
